6/14/08 San Francisco, CA

I’m experiencing the famous San Francisco fog, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. You can actually see thick clouds of water with visible water particles, flying like snow. The fog is close to the ground and I could move through it. I was a bit nervous for our 6:00 am practice ride, it would be the first opportunity to demonstrate my riding capabilities. It turned out to be a very relaxing trip. We swept through 14 miles of Sausilito, which looks like a resort on the water. Views of the harbor and hills were foggy but great, and we stopped for pictures as we climbed and descended. We practiced pacelining, and felt like professional riders for the first time.

Our kickoff dinner was at a nice place called Jillian's. The joint had a luxury sports bar feel and the unusual thing was that it played some fairly popular music that the guys were hip to, not the typical muzak. The buffet was delish and it was nice to see parents come out to celebrate with their sons. They wore very proud faces, as they should, and I felt a sense of pride myself as we stood on the brink of a life changing summer.
