6/19/08 Carson City, NV

Easiest day so far. Almost a complete downhill, with some flats, ride to Carson City, NV. We left California and entered the Silver State and the landscape changed from pined mountains to desert hills that look like mounds of tan dirt with mold-like shrubbery. I achieved my highest speed so far rolling into town, 46 mph!

We had a nice arrival and lunch with the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City. It was a fun group of kids whose ages ranged from about 7-14. They liked the Kids on the Block show we put on and were bubbling with questions about cycling and what we do. I was able to be a kid and play tether ball and kickball for a few hours. Two little cheerleaders actually made a cheer with my name, it was pretty sweet. We felt like heroes when some asked us to sign autographs.

Dinner was provided by the Rotary Club of Carson City, and we settled down in the gymnasium of Dayton Intermediate School. While the team was waiting to get into the school, Andy and Pace had a “light saber” fight with the walkie-talkies. Apparently, when the radios are turned on and held close together, they screech and crackle. The two struck dramatic sword poses and it was pretty funny.
